While in Las Vegas, The Family of Food loves to visit Lindo's Michoacan which we profiled before in the post entitled Ole.
Yesterday, we went back at an off hour for lunch with the twins. The meal was started with Lindo's tortilla chips, salsa, and bean dip. Then we were given soup which was quickly requisitioned by our toddlers for spoon in mouth practice. They need more work. The staff was kind and patient with our many spills and thrills. For our lunch, we had a combo platter with Chile Relleno, Chicken Enchilada, and Beef Taco and Fajitas de Gallina. I tried a small bite of the chicken enchilada, but for the most part the combo platter ended up in the the belly of my mate. He may have even licked the platter clean, which indicates it was probably pretty good. My fajitas were delicious. I shared them with the kids. The impressive thing about Lindo's is that the basic things are so good. The flour tortillas are some of the best I have ever had. The whole family was happy. The Lindo's experience is always golden.
Later we went to Planet Hollywood and grabbed some late night sandwiches at The Earl of Sandwich. The "Original" roast beef sandwich was decent for a fast food type of situation, but otherwise I was not impressed. My "All American" Turkey was below par. I wish I would have saved my appetite for the Lindo's leftovers.

Did I say smear?
Mother of Food and I had just picked up her brother (Uncle of Food) at McCarran Airport. He mentioned he was hungry and could go for some old fashioned deli styled salami and eggs (probably testing to see if we had any kosher styled deli here in Sin City). Now we have the Stage, the Carnegie, and Canters delicatessens’ and many other fine deli’s but if you want the real Las Vegas deli experience then you must go to Harrie’s Bagelmania.
Harrie’s is located about 5 minutes east of Las Vegas Boulevard in a strip center well past it’s prime. It is open from 6:30 AM - 3PM serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. If you like a New York style bagel this is the place. Their Bialy’s are great and they have the best lox in town (did I say smear). On any morning you will find many of the movers and shakers of LV or resident entertainers holding court.
Now about the salami and eggs pancake style (I had mine with onions added) - super! Harrie’s Bagelmania is certainly more than bagels, they have great tasting food. You will find all types of egg dishes, fresh salads, fish platters, sandwiches, homemade soups including chicken with matzo ball or kreplach and of course items like chopped liver, potato pancakes, noodle kugel w/raisins or different types of knishes. Take home some black and white cookies or rugalah for later.
Stop by on Tuesdays for special pricing on bagels, corn beef and pastrami.
Location - 855 E. Twain Ave., Suite #120 Las Vegas, NV. 89169

Good Company

One of the joys of dining is getting together with people you like. On this particular night we were with two of our favorites - Cousins of Food.
We were cruising in our van trying to decide where to eat when we came upon the Liberace museum and Carluccio’s Tivoli Gardens next door. CoF asked if we had ever eaten there. We hadn’t but would like to try it.
Carluccio’s was originally designed by Liberace and is quite eclectic. The hostess said there would be a short wait and asked if we would like to have a seat in the English lounge complete with carved bar imported from a English pub. Next to this room is the piano lounge with it’s autographed mirrored piano and mirrored walls. This would be a perfect spot for a celebration of less than fifty people. The main room is an indoor patio with gardens and fountains. It was filled with groups and families enjoying themselves. I almost felt that I was at an Italian wedding. There are two more rooms and each one is different.
Our food was tasty, the portions large and the service was good. Overall it was good value. I had lasagna, Mother of Food had Chicken Francese and Cousins of Food had Pasta dishes. Entrees come with fresh hot bread, a side of pasta and a choice of soup or salad. The menu is quite extensive with a variety of chicken, veal, seafood, different types of pasta and Sicilian pizza.
We ate we talked, we ate we laughed and when the meal was finished we talked and laughed some more. I like good food but I love good company.

Good - Better - Best
Mother of Food and I were out playing video poker the other night at the Tuscany Suites & Casino when we decided to take a dinner break. Our choice for the evening was the Cantina Mexican Restaurant. We eat there frequently and find the food consistently tasty. As soon as your seated one of the friendly staff brings you a warm bowl of chips and three different dips - salsa, Pico de Gallo and an addictive warm bean dip. All dinners are served with Mexican rice and refried beans. Our entrees that evening were Pollo Boracho, a grilled chicken breast, sautéed with rosemary garlic sauce and topped with cactus and cheese and Camarones Ranchero, shrimp sautéed with bell peppers, onions and ranchero sauce.
If your in the mood for good Mexican food at reasonable prices the Cantina would be a good value, and if you have a 2 for 1 coupon an even better value, and if you can pay the rest with comps, that is the best deal of all.
Location - 5 minutes east of strip on Flamingo Blvd.
