Family of Food likes George RR Martin Cupcakes

George RR Martin has published his latest volume in the Song of Ice and Fire series.  Due in part to the popularity of the Game of Thrones series,it has hit #1 on the bestseller list!  I am waiting patiently while Husband of Food finishes his copy of A Dance with Dragons so I can read it (what is going on with Jon Snow these days, anyway?) and in the meanwhile maybe I will make my own version of this awesome set of ASoIaF Cupcakes found on this link  http://www.voyagerbooks.com/2011/07/20/a-dance-with-dragons-1/

Is there a similarity to the Settlers of Catan cupcakes we made in 2008?  Comic-con is this week, I sense a geeky cupcake fest in our future.

The Fever is Spreading

Today I went to a birthday party for young Friend of Food's Daughter (Friend of Food once removed?) and just look at the loving care put into these cat themed goodies.  Friend of Food's Mom made these treats.

For the kids, peanut butter and jelly Cat Sandwiches, with raisins for eyes, pretzel sticks for whiskers, and grape tomato noses.

For everyone, there were chocolate Cat Cupcakes frosted in purple (the Birthday Girl's favorite color) with M&M eyes, marshmallow teeth, licorice whiskers, raisin noses, and tart gummy candy ears.  There was a secret surprise, the paper cups were Hello Kitty, so there was a cat at the bottom of the cup cake. 

Nicely done, Friend of Food's Mom.  It seems the fever for making iconic foods is spreading, maybe in this case it is a cat scratch fever?

New Cookbooks!

I got some new cookbooks for Hanukkah and Christmas and boy are my eyes tired. What a great set!

I recieved the new collection from the editors at Gourmet Magazine, Gourmet Today. This book is so comprehensive, I barely know where to start. All I know is that it is likely to become a new favorite.

Also, I got Top Secret Restaurant Recipes 2. The first recipe I plan to make from this book is the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits for a certain Friend of Food who loves the things.
If this book works out, I am likely to save lots of money and calories by making my own versions of restaurant foods.

Lastly and perhaps most enjoyably I was given Hello, Cupcake. You all know my penchant for making my food into a craft project (see the tag bento for evidence of this.) I already have picked out a recipe that I may have the twins help me on for Christmas Eve. The only thing preventing me from making cupcakes today is the abundance of sweets on my kitchen counter (thank you K!) No worries, the future will include cupcakes... look out for edible cuteness on the blog.
